Elm Hunters

How to Get Involved

I want people to join the elm hunt!

Adopt an elm: try to locate a large, healthy elm, and monitor its health. Take a note of coordinates, and take photos. Keep an eye out for evidence of Dutch elm disease on nearby trees.

Learn about Dutch elm disease and how trees are being saved by reading The Elm Hunters and doing your own research, and take that learning to other species such as ash or the American chestnut, which also suffer from specific trees diseases.

At certain times of year, seeds could be collected and sent to us to help diversify natural elm orchards. If you would like further information on how to best collect and package seeds, and where to send them, please get in touch.

I’d love to hear about your conservation adventures as Elm Hunters. You can contact me at UHI Inverness.
